John Thackara spent 4 days with us and shared examples of how design thinking can help revitalize local economies, services and communities. With thoughts from the Transition Towns movement that is sweeping the globe, to Dott 07 to CityEcoLab in France – John explored with us how Nova Scotians are innovating to create sustainable communities where people want to live, work and play.

John Thackara is founder and Director of Doors of Perception, the Dott Festival and an organiser of festivals in Europe and India in which grassroots innovators work with designers to imagine sustainable futures – and take practical steps to realize them.

Engaging views were shared on this critical topic as discussed by Uffe Elbaek (Kaos Pilots, Denmark), Peter MacLeod, (Principal, MASS LBP) and Joan MacArthur-Blair (President, NSCC).  A fantastic kick-off to the Halifax series of TEDx.

This event was held at The Hub (1673 Barrington Street) with overflow seating and live streaming at Garrison Brewery where people watched on the big screen while sipping some delicious, locally-brewed beer!

Halifax’s 3rd PechaKucha night will featured an all-star line-up delivering commentary on Forward Thinking using 20 images x 20 seconds – the greatest format ever for powerpoint presentations.

Included in PK3 was be the results of the 4 Days “Design a Better Life in Halifax” charrette.
